Andrey Kovalenko
1976, Odessa
Andrey was born on 20 April 1976 in Odessa, the son of artists Yuri Kovalenko and Svetlana Kovalenko-Shvedova. In 1991 he entered the painting and pedagogical department of the Odessa State Art School named after M.B. Grekov. In 1996, a few months before the defence of his diploma, he held his first personal exhibition in the exhibition hall of the Union of Artists of Ukraine. In 2008 he joined the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
He leads a fruitful creative life, taking part in creative plein airs group exhibitions. Almost every year since 2007 he has organized personal exhibitions in Odessa and Kiev as well as abroad. Since 2012 he has been working on urban themes, painting landscapes of old Odessa, genre scenes, and Odessa courtyards, as well as the sea and the port.
With the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, he left with his wife and three young daughters for Poland, where he continues active creative work. А. Kovalenko paints many canvasses, drawing inspiration from the towns of southern Poland, and the landscape of the Beskid mountains. He has also had a number of exhibitions in the city of Tarnów.
Kovalenko’s works are displayed in the Odessa Art Museum, the Odessa Museum of Western and Eastern Art, the Museum of Modern Art of Odessa, the Kiev House-Museum of I. Kavaleridze, the Kanev Art Museum, the Prilutsk Local History Museum, and the Museum of Contemporary Art of Odessa.
His paintings can also be found in the V.I. Maslov Local History Museum and the Vinnytsia Local History Museum, as well as in private collections in Ukraine and around the world.
