Ibragim Shanaev was born in Dagestan in 1954. He went to art college in Vladikavkaz before enrolling at the I. Repin State Academic Institute of Fine Arts in St Petersburg, where he studied from 1984 to 1987.

​Shanaev graduated from Surikov Moscow State Academic Art Institute in 1989, and has been a member of the Moscow Union of Artists since 1999. 

Shanaev’s work is controlled and precise, with a love of graphic design and an eye for pattern that makes his pieces eminently collectable.

As well as many exhibitions in Moscow, Shanaev’s paintings and drawings have been shown in Switzerland, Belgium, Paris and Genoa, while his much sought-after work is housed in private collections in and beyond Russia.
