Muzhik Dreaming
Grigorij Musatov
Although he lived in Czechoslovakia for most of his life, Musatov's themes (for example in this painting, of the dreaming peasant) were drawn from his Russian homeland. Here he found a simple, rural, somewhat naive mode of life, which he chose to recreate with impressionistic brushwork. Many of his mature paintings exhibit the same luminous palette and hazy, dreamlike atmosphere.
